A huge congratulations to our year 13 student Xavier, who has been selected to receive a £15,000 university scholarship and work placement with food brand Sacla!

The opportunity was open to year 13 students from across the UK in partnership with employability and life skills charity Working Options in Education, a charity we work closely with at St. Francis Xavier, who have provided many fantastic opportunities for our students over the years. Sacla' were looking for a student with a real passion for food hoping to study a food or management related degree from September 2021. Sacla' will be contributing £15,000 to university fees and providing a work placement during the summer breaks, with the potential for employment at the end of the degree.

As part of the selection process those students interested in applying were able to attend a webinar to find out more information and to receive support with their application. They then had to submit their CV and a cover letter explaining why they thought they would be a good candidate for the scholarship; those who made it through to the next stage were asked to submit a video of themselves making a meal using Sacla’ products and talking about their passion for food. The final stage of the selection process was an interview at the Sacla’ headquarters in Beaconsfield. Two students from St. Francis Xavier did tremendously well and made it to the final interview stage, with Xavier being selected to receive the scholarship.

Xavier is studying Biology, Economics and Geography A levels and is planning to study Nutrition and Dietetics at university from September. On being chosen to receive the scholarship, Xavier said I was in the train on my way to school on Friday when i got a call from the business teachers telling me I had won. In the moment I was in disbelief and it took a while to sink in, but I’m excited for the future and I am proud of myself. It is an opportunity for me to get vital work experience in the industry which will improve my job prospects in the future as well as providing me with great networking opportunities. I’m looking forward to my work experience over the summer and learning more about the inner workings of a business. In the future I’m hoping to work for the NHS as a Dietitian, join the Army Reserves and complete further study in the field of Sport.
