SFX students attend lecture by first British astronaut

Last week Physics and Engineering students had the once in a life-time opportunity to attend a lecture by the first British astronaut, Helen Sharman.
Students were part of a large audience who attended the talk at Imperial College London to hear about Helen’s journey from Earth to Space! Helen talked her audience through her journey starting with her interests and what she studied in university to the moment she heard a radio advert looking for the first British astronaut! She then continued on to describe her experience on applying and how the space program and training went. She then explained about being in space, feeling weightless and the science research which she carried out (and how different results are seen in space) – she even went as far as describing how you drink coffee or use the toilet in space. Following the talk students then were able to speak to Helen and ask her questions. Helen’s talk was both informative and inspiring – her final message being that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.
